Improving Workplace Ergonomics in Logistics
In logistics, frequent lifting, repetitive movements, and long shifts can take a toll on employees, leading to fatigue, discomfort, and an increased risk of musculoskeletal injuries.
With a history spanning over 180 years, B.Braun is one of the world’s leading medical technology and pharmaceutical companies, providing innovative solutions for healthcare professionals and patients across more than 60 countries. At its Melsungen distribution center in Germany, where over 300 employees manage the storage and shipment of medical products, B.Braun places a strong emphasis on workplace ergonomics and employee health. Given the physical demans of logistics operations – including frequent lifting, repetitive movements, and long shift – the company sought an innovative solution to reduce strain and prevent musculoskeletal issues.
As part of this commitment, B.Braun introduced the LiftSuit exoskeleton, aiming to support employees in their daily tasks while improving long-term occupational health and workplace safety.

A Strategic Approach to Workplace Ergonomics
The decision to introduce exoskeletons at B. Braun was driven by a commitment to protecting employee health and reducing physical strain in demanding logistics roles.
"With demographic changes, our employees are getting older and will work longer. Exoskeletons provide great support, making lifting easier on the back and improving overall health." – Dennis Döring, Logistics Supervisor at B. Braun.
To find the right solution, the company conducted a comprehensive test phase, evaluating various exoskeleton models to ensure ease of use, comfort, and effectiveness.
Testing and Implementation: Putting Employees First
B.Braun placed a strong emphasis on employee involvement when selecting an exoskeleton solution. To ensure that the chosen system met the real needs of workers, the company conducted extensive testing, gathering direct feedback from employees and evaluating their experiences in daily operations.
The results were clear: employees found the LiftSuit to be the most intuitive, comfortable, and effective solution for physically demanding tasks. Its lightweight, textile-based design made it easy to integrate into daily workflows, and internal surveys reflected high acceptance rates among workers.
Following the successful pilot, B. Braun implemented the LiftSuit in key logistics roles, particularly in areas involving frequent lifting, such as order picking, shipping, and repacking.

"We don’t require anyone to wear it. The exoskeletons are an optional support tool, not a way to push for higher output. Our goal is to provide relief from physical demands — and I believe we’ve created a great opportunity for that." – Fabian Schmitt, Head of the Distribution Center at B. Braun.
How the LiftSuit is Changing Daily Work
Since the introduction of exoskeletons, employees at B. Braun have noticed a significant reduction in strain and fatigue. Many who previously experienced back pain and discomfort now report a noticeable improvement in their well-being.
Dennis Döring, Logistics Supervisor, has seen this positive shift firsthand. Employees frequently mention how much of a difference the LiftSuit makes in their daily tasks.
"We hear fewer reports about back pain. Employees say the exoskeleton provides great support and is comfortable to wear," says Döring.
For Viktor Geringer, an order picker with 20 years of experience, back pain used to be an unavoidable part of the job. After incorporating the LiftSuit into his routine, he quickly felt the benefits.

"Since I started wearing the exoskeleton, I no longer have back pain after work. It’s really helpful," he shares.
Similarly, Karin Bauer, who has spent 15 years in shipping and packaging, lifts 25 kg packages daily. She highlights how the LiftSuit has changed the way her body feels after work.

"I feel the relief most in the evenings. I used to have a lot of tension after work, but now I sleep much better," she explains.
Even those who were initially skeptical quickly adapted once they found the right fit.
"At first, it took some getting used to. Many employees had the exoskeleton strapped too tightly," says Döring. "But after a few adjustments, they realized how comfortable and effective it actually is."
With more employees experiencing these benefits, the LiftSuit has become an invaluable tool for reducing strain and improving overall comfort in physically demanding roles.
Measurable Benefits: Health, Workplace Satisfaction & Employee Interest
Since introducing exoskeletons, B. Braun has observed clear improvements in employee health and overall workplace satisfaction.
"In my team, I have noticed a clear reduction in back-related illnesses. Employees also feel less exhausted after shifts." – Dennis Döring
Additionally, our exoskeletons have quickly become a well-integrated tool in daily operations. More than 40 employees wear it regularly, experiencing noticeable relief in physically demanding tasks. As awareness of its benefits spreads, new employees are actively requesting exoskeletons, highlighting their increasing acceptance and demand within the workforce.
"Once the first employees were equipped with exoskeletons, others started coming to us proactively, asking to try them. That’s when we equipped a second wave of employees."
Key Outcomes So Far
✔ Fewer reports of back pain
✔ Improved posture and comfort while lifting
✔ Higher employee satisfaction
✔ Increased interest among new hires
As the company continues to monitor the impact of exoskeletons, B. Braun is now exploring additional use cases.
"We see great potential, especially in repacking tasks where a lot of lifting is required." – Dennis Döring
Future Plans: Scaling the Success of Exoskeletons
B. Braun is considering expanding the use of Auxivo exoskeletons to additional locations. To ensure that the LiftSuit’s benefits are objectively measurable, Auxivo's Research Team is conducting on-site biomechanical and health data assessments. By gathering science-backed data directly from employees in real working conditions, the company provides a clear and quantifiable understanding of the exoskeleton’s impact, going beyond subjective feedback.
"We are already in contact with other locations. I believe this is just the beginning. Once we have solid data from our field studies, we’ll be able to highlight the full potential." – Fabian Schmitt
By analyzing real-world data, Auxivo aims to provide measurable insights into how exoskeletons reduce physical strain and enhance well-being. These findings will help guide future implementations at B. Braun while reinforcing the scientifically proven benefits of wearable support systems. The full research report will be available soon, offering data-driven evidence of the LiftSuit’s impact and further optimizing its use for employees.

By prioritizing ergonomic solutions, B. Braun is setting new standards in workplace safety and demonstrating how exoskeletons contribute to a healthier, more sustainable work environment.
